## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 1, 2024 AT APPROXIMATELY 11:00AM LOCAL TIME, WHILE 10 MILES WEST OF THE HENDRICKS COUNTY AIRPORT (2R2), INDIANA, A CESSNA 172N AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A FLAP RETRACTION MALFUNCTION. WHILE ENDING PRACTICE OF SLOW FLIGHT MANEUVERS, THE PILOT RETRACTED THE FLAPS AND REPORTED HEARING A "BANG". THE PILOT STATED WHEN LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW IT APPEARED THAT THE RIGHT-HAND FLAP MAY NOT HAVE RETRACTED ALL THE WAY. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE THE PILOT RETURNED TO 2R2 AND CHOSE NOT TO USE THE FLAPS DURING LANDING. THE PILOT LANDED THE AIRCRAFT UNEVENTFULLY. ONCE ON THE GROUND THE FLAPS WORKED NORMALLY, HOWEVER, THE RIGHT FLAP DISPLAYED SOME MINOR DAMAGE INDICATING A TWISTING FORCE THAT WAS POSSIBLY CAUSED BY BINDING ON ONE END OF THE FLAP DURING RETRACTION. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL ARE WORKING ON THE AIRCRAFT TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
