As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 5, 2024, A FRONTIER AIRLINES AIRBUS A321 (N701FR) OPERATING AS FLIGHT FFT^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FROM SAN DIEGO (KSAN) TO LAS VEGAS (KLAS), DECLARED AN EMERGENCY DUE TO A SMOKE INDICATION IN THE COCKPIT. THE CREW RAN THE SMOKE/FUMES/AVNCS SMOKE CHECKLIST WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT ENTERING EMERGENCY ELECTRICAL CONFIGURATION. AT APPROXIMATELY 1310LT, THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AND SUBSEQUENTLY ALL FOUR MAIN GEAR TIRES DEFLATED, RESULTING IN A MAIN LANDING GEAR WHEEL FIRE. THE FIRE WAS QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED. ALL PASSENGERS AND CREW WERE EVACUATED VIA AIRSTAIRS ONTO THE RUNWAY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED TO THE 179 PASSENGERS ONBOARD. RUNWAY 26L IS CURRENTLY CLOSED.

VIDEO OF THE EVENT SHOWS THE AIRCRAFT ON LANDING ROLLOUT WITH FLAMES FROM THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AREA. IT IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE SMOKE INDICATION. THE AIRCRAFT DID EXPERIENCE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS DIFFICULTIES AFTER LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT RESCUE FIRE FIGHTERS WERE UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PILOTS.

ACCORDING TO THE QUICK REFERENCE HANDBOOK, WHEN THE AIRPLANE IS IN THE ELEC EMER CONFIG CONDITION, THE WHEEL BRAKE ANTI-SKID, ENGINE REVERSERS, AND NOSEWHEEL STEERING SYSTEMS (AMONG OTHERS) ARE INOPERATIVE, DUE TO THE LIMITED ELECTRICAL POWER AVAILABLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA25LA001](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA25LA001), Oct 5, 2024: Airbus A321-211 (N701FR), Las Vegas, NV, incident, investigation ongoing

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
