## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A NORMAL ENGINE START-UP, THE AIRCREW WAS ALERTED TO AN ABNORMAL CONDITION BY THE GROUND CREW AND PIC ABORTED THE LEFT ENGINE START. NO FIRE WARNINGS WERE TRIGGERED IN THE COCKPIT DURING THE START SEQUENCE. HOWEVER, GROUND PERSONNEL OBSERVED A FIRE AT THE LEFT ENGINE AND IMMEDIATELY ALERTED THE CREW AND THE AIRPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT. FOLLOWING ABORT OF ENGINE START THERE WERE STILL RESIDUAL FLAMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE NACELLE AND TAILPIPE AREA SO PIC ELECTED TO DISCHARGE THE LEFT ENGINE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. THE FIRE WAS FULLY EXTINGUISHED WHEN AIRPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL ARRIVED ON SCENE. THERE WAS MINOR PAINT DAMAGE TO THE TO THE AFT EMPENAGE AND LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. REMAINDER OF DAMAGE WAS CONTAINED TO THE ENGINE AND PYLON.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
