A GYROPLANE WITH ONE PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO TAKEOFF ON AN APPROVED GRASS RUNWAY. DURING TAKEOFF THE PILOT ROTATED PRIOR TO REACHING HIS ROTATION TAKEOFF SPEED. THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO CLIMB AS ANTICIPATED AND BEGAN DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE LEFT DRIFT AND CLIMB OUT. THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO GAIN ALTITUDE. THE PILOT ATTEMPED TO PERFORM A LATE ABORT LANDING AND LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT LEAVING THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A PARKED GYROPLANE, CONCRETE PAD AND WOOD PILE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN25LA022](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN25LA022), Oct 19, 2024: Magniflight M24 Orion (N4777W), Valmeyer, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of control due to flight control interference by the passenger during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
