## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE OPERATOR OF A SUPER PETREL XP LIGHT SPORT AMPHIBIAN AIRCRAFT AND A MILE ON FINAL APPROACH, PROCEEDED TO PERFORM THE LANDING CHECKLIST AND OBSERVED SEVERAL TURKEYS PARALLEL TO THE RUNWAY ABOUT A 100 YARDS TO THE LEFT AND MOVING CLOSER AND AT ABOUT 50 FEET. WITH ATTENTION BEING ON THE FLOCK OF BIRDS FAILED TO PUT THE GEAR DOWN THEREFORE, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE KEEL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND NO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE NOTED. THE PILOT ADMITTED THAT HE DID NOT VERIFY THE GEAR BEING DOWN AND VERIFIED DUE TO BEING DISTRACTED. AS A NEW OWNER AND MINIMAL TIME LOGGED ON THIS AIRCRAFT, ENROLLED IN A THREE-DAY SAFETY COURSE, FOLLOWED BY A FLIGHT WITH A SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE FOR ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, AND AN ADDITIONAL CHECK RIDE TO FOLLOW BECAUSE OF THE INCIDENT. NO FURTHER ACTION IS REQUIRED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
