## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND ON RUNWAY 11 AT WILLOW ISLAND AIRPORT (58KY), A PRIVATE AIRSTRIP, ON 11/4/2024 AT APROXIMATELY 1440 EST. A VANS RV6A EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED BY THE OWNER, WHO IS A PRIVATE PILOT.

THE PILOT STATED DURING THE LANDING ROLL, HE HIT A BUMP IN THE GRASS RUNWAY THAT TRAVERSED THE WIDTH OF THE RUNWAY AND BECAME AIRBORNE AND STALLED BEFORE HE IMPACTED THE GROUND. DURING THE ACCIDENT, THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED WHEN IT HIT THE GROUND FIRST, WHICH CAUSED THE PROPELLOR TO IMPACT THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP. THE PILOT STATED HE WAS NOT INJURED, AND HE WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT. THERE WAS NO POST-IMPACT FIRE OR DAMAGE TO OTHER PROPERTY. THE PILOT SAID THE BUMP IN THE RUNWAY IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT IS HARD TO JUDGE FROM THE FLARE AND THAT MOST LANDINGS WERE DONE ON THE OPPOSITE RUNWAY WHEN WIND WAS NOT A BIG FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA038](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA038), Nov 3, 2024: Deneal Daniel W Vans RV6A (N256GD), Taylorsville, KY, substantial damage. Probable cause: A nose landing gear collapse following a bounced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
