## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT INTENDED TO FLY FROM 7S3 TO KBDN. THE PILOT STATED DURING THE PREFLIGHT ENGINE RUN UP THE CARB HEATER APPEARED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY. THE FLIGHT DEPARTED 7S3 AT APPROX 1330. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF, THE PILOT NOTICED AN ENGINE VIBRATION AND DROP IN ENGINE RPM AT APPROXIMATELY 7900 MSL NEAR THE CITY OF MOLALLA, OR. DESPITE ALREADY HAVING CARB HEAT ON AND FOLLOWING THE ENGINE FAILURE CHECKLIST, THE ENGINE ROUGHNESS WORSENED AND RPM DROPPED FURTHER. ATTEMPTS TO STABILIZE THE ENGINE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AND THE PILOT STATED HE DECLARED AN EMERGENCY ON 121.5. THE PILOT SELECTED A DIRT ROAD FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING, UPON LANDING, THE AIRPLANE STRUCK A TREE CAUSING IT TO SPIN 180 DEGREES BEFORE COMING TO REST.
