## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE START-UP OF THE RIGHT ENGINE OF THE KING AIR (N438CA) BY THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC), THE SECOND IN COMMAND (SIC) VISUALLY CONFIRMED THAT THE AIRPLANE WAS STATIONARY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO UNTANGLE HIS SHOULDER HARNESS FROM THE RIGHT SEAT. LESS THAN A MINUTE LATER, WHILE STARTING THE LEFT ENGINE, THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH A PARKED COMPANY AIRPLANE (N902TS) IN FRONT OF IT, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO N483CA. FORTUNATELY, THE TWO PILOTS AND TWO PASSENGERS WERE NOT INJURED. THE WEATHER THAT NIGHT WAS VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) WITH A LIGHT DRIZZLE, AND THE AIRPLANE'S STROBE AND BEACON LIGHTS WERE THE ONLY SOURCES OF ILLUMINATION. THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN WASHED BEFORE THE FLIGHT.

Probable cause: A temporary reduction in the airplane’s braking effectiveness during engine start following an exterior wash, which resulted in its uncommanded forward movement and collision with a parked airplane.…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
