## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT AND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WERE FLYING FOR THE PURPOSES OF A SIGHTSEEING FLIGHT. 45 MINUTES IN TO THE FLIGHT, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED. PILOT THOUGHT BECAUSE OF CONDITIONS (45 DEGREE AIR TEMP, 1800 AGL OVERCAST) THAT IT MIGHT BE CARB ICE. PILOT APPLIED CARB HEAT. 4 MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AGAIN, AND PILOT WAS NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE. PILOT FOUND A ROAD TO LAND ON AND SWITCHED FUEL SELECTOR TO THE LEFT TANK DURING THE DESCENT. AFTER LANDING ON THE HIGHWAY, A VISUAL CHECK OF THE RIGHT TANK SHOWED EMPTY. THE LEFT TANK SHOWED APPROXIMATELY 20 GALLONS. PILOT STARTED THE ENGINE AND PERFORMED PRE FLIGHT-ENGINE RUN UP CHECKS BEFORE ELECTING TO TAKE OFF AND RETURN TO GRANDBURY, TX AIRPORT.

TIME 1435 - EMERGENCY LANDING ON HIGHWAY,

1611 - TAKE OFF FROM HIGHWAY,

1626 - LAND AT KGDJ (GRANDBURY, TX)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
