## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CFI INDICATED THE PURPOSE OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT WAS TO PRACTICE CROSSWIND TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS. AT START OF THE TRAINING FLIGHT; WINDS WERE VARIABLE AT 12 KNOTS. CFI INDICATED STUDENT STRUGGGLED OBTAIN SMOOTH APPROACHES DURING THE FIRST TWO TOUCH-AND-GO MANUVERS. ONCE THE WINDS PICKED UP TO 26 KNOTS, THE STUDENT STATED IT WAS TIME TO STOP THE INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT. HOWEVER, THE STUDENT PILOT MAINTAINED THE CONTROLS AND PERFORMED THE FINAL LANDING EXERCISE. DURING FINAL APPROACH, THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIANCED AN UPDRAFT WHICH LIFTED THE RIGHT WING. THE AIRCRAFT DROPPED SIDEWAYS AND THE LEFT MAIN GEAR IMPACTED THE TERAIN. THE LEFT GEAR COLAPSED AND THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED INTO THE GRASS AND STOPPED. THE CREW SAFELY DISEMBARKED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE AIRCRAFT DAMAGE IS CONSIDERED MINOR. AFTERWARDS, THE CFI AGREED HE SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CONTROLS AND LANDED THE AIRCRAFT ONCE THEY AGREED TO STOP TRAINING.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
