## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IT WAS THE INSTRUCTOR'S FIRST FLIGHT OF THE DAY, BUT SECOND LESSON AS HE WAS IN THE AATD EARLIER. THEY HAD DONE SOME MANEUVERS AT 2,500 FEET MSL AND HE SIMULATED AN ENGINE FAILURE A FEW MILES SOUTH OF PLUM ISLAND. WINDS ALOFT WERE ESTIMATED FROM WNW AT 10-15KTS. THEY WERE HIGH SO THEY DID A 270 OR SO DEGREE TURN ON TO A LONGER FINAL. AT FIRST, THEY WERE LOOKING SET-UP WELL. STUDENT PUT IN 2 NOTCHES OF FLAPS (25 DEGREES) AND THE INSTRUCTOR STARTED VERBALLY COACHING WITH COMMENTS LIKE "GO SLOW, WATCH YOUR SINK, ADD BACK PRESSURE. THE INSTRUCTOR STATED HE STARTED TO ADD POWER AND THEY STRUCK THE FENCE JUST AS HE REACHED FULL POWER. UPON HITTING THE FENCE AND RUNWAY HE PULLED THE THROTTLE AND MIXTURE TO IDLE. THEY DID NOT FOLLOW A "NORMAL" EXCHANGE OF CONTROLS AS IT WAS SO SUDDEN. HE REPORTED THE AIRPLANE BUCKED WITH POWER IN HIGH, THEY HIT THE RUNWAY AND HE PULLED THE POWER BACK, TRYING TO STEER THE AIRCRAFT BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE THEY SLID OFF INTO THE WEEDS. HE REPORTED ISSUES WITH THE DOOR LATCH TRYING TO GET OUT. THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL ISSUES. UPON GETTING OUT AND REALIZING THAT EVERYONE WAS OK CALLED RESCUE AND THE FLIGHT SCHOOL.
