## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED ENGINE FAILURE AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 20 AND CRASHED OFF AIRPORT PROPERTY ON TUMBULL BAY RD. PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE LOST POWER DURING CLIMB AROUND 150 FEET AGL. PILOT THEN SHUT OFF ANYTHING FUEL RELATED, NOSED THE AIRCRAFT DOWNWARDS TO AVOID A STALL, AND CHOSE A FLIGHT PATH FOR LANDING. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR SHEARED FROM IMPACT, AND AIRCRAFT ROTATED LONGITUDINALLY ON IT'S NOSE RESTING UPSIDE DOWN ON IT'S WINGS. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSEQUENTIALLY EXAMINED INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY, THE ENGINE WAS THEN REMOVED FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND AFFIXED TO A LOCALLY MANUFACTURED ENGINE STAND WITH EXTENDED WIRES AND FUEL LINES FABRICATED TO EXTEND TO THE AIRFRAME. USING THE AIRFRAMES ELECTRICAL POWER AND FUEL SYSTEM, THE ENGINE WAS RAN THROUGH A RANGE OF RPM FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR. NO FAULT WITH ENGINE PERFORMANCE WAS OBSERVED. AFTER EXHAUSTING ALL POSSIBLE CAUSES, A ROOT CAUSE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA132](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA132), Mar 1, 2025: Textron 172 (N923EP), New Smyrna Beach, FL, substantial damage, investigation ongoing

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
