## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IN A TRAINING FLIGHT FOR THE COMMERCIAL CERTIFICATE, A CESSNA 180 PERFORMED A THREE-POINT LANDING ON RUNWAY 12 AT SAN CARLOS AIRPORT. ROLLING OUT AFTER LANDING, THE PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR ENCOUNTERED A CROSSWIND GUST FROM THE RIGHT AND DID NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH AILERON AND RUDDER CONTROL INPUT SOON ENOUGH TO PREVENT A GROUND LOOP WHICH WAS CONFINED WITHIN THE RUNWAY WIDTH. LEFT WING, LEFT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, AND HUB OF LEFT MAIN WHEEL ALL CONTACTED THE SURFACE. THE CHANGING WIND WAS DIRECTLY FROM THE PLANE'S RIGHT AT 10 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO 18 KTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR25LA119](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR25LA119), Mar 26, 2025: Cessna 180 (N180ZR), San Carlos, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing roll with crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
