## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC) OF THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FROM RYAN FIELD (KRYN) AND CLIMBED TO 4,500 FEET MSL. HE THEN DESCENDED AND ENTERED A LEFT DOWNWIND FOR RUNWAY 12 AT MARANA REGIONAL AIRPORT (KAVQ), CONTINUING THE TRAFFIC PATTERN AND PERFORMING A LOW APPROACH.

AFTER THE LOW APPROACH, THE PIC DEPARTED THE KAVQ AIRSPACE TO THE SOUTHWEST. WHILE ENROUTE, HE MONITORED THE AWOS AT KRYN AND SUBSEQUENTLY CONTACTED THE TOWER. THE TOWER INITIALLY INSTRUCTED THE PILOT TO ENTER A LEFT BASE FOR RUNWAY 06L BUT THEN CHANGED THE LANDING RUNWAY TO 06R.

THE PIC REPORTED MAINTAINING 75–80 KIAS ON A ONE-MILE FINAL. UPON TOUCHDOWN, HE BEGAN APPLYING THE BRAKES, AT WHICH POINT THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE PAVED SURFACE AND STRUCK TAXIWAY MARKER "B2" WITH THE CANARD AND RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR.

THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO SHUT DOWN THE AIRCRAFT AND EXIT WITHOUT INJURY. POST-INCIDENT INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE LEFT BRAKE LINE HAD BEEN CONSTRAINED AND HAD BEGUN TO TWIST FROM CONTINUOUS VIBRATION. THIS CAUSED THE LINE TO FLEX AND EVENTUALLY FAIL AT THE CRIMP POINT. IT IS BELIEVED THIS FAILURE OCCURRED JUST PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
