## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONDUCTING PATTERN WORK WITH THE PILOT AND A PASSENGER ONBOARD. AFTER A TOUCH AND GO, THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED IN A LOW-LEVEL STEEP LEFT TURN. THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE GROUND AND THE AIRCRAFT CARTWHEELED TO THE LEFT INJURING BOTH OCCUPANTS WHO WERE AIRLIFTED WITH SERIOUS INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA198](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA198), May 7, 2025: Diamond Aircraft Ind DA 40 NG (N499BW), Sanford, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The mechanic’s re-use of worm drive clamps, which resulted in a separation of the turbocharger air discharge duct and a partial loss of engine power during initial climb.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
