## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 5-24-2025 THE PILOT DEPARTED ON A FLIGHT FROM FVX TO VJI. USED FOREFLIGHT TO CALCULATE FUEL AND CHECK WEATHER. DID NOT VISUALLY CHECK FUEL LEVEL. RELIED ON FUEL TOTALIZER ONLY FOR AIRCRAFT FUEL LEVEL.

SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE CLIMBED TO 10,000 FEET TO GET OUT OF TURBULENCE. ENCOUNTERED A 41 KNOT HEADWIND AND STAYED AT 10,000 FEET FOR SOME TIME. DESCENDED TO 6500 FEET WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED CALMER AIR. WAS ON APPROACH TO RUNWAY 24 AT VJI WHEN THE ENGINE SURGED AFTER SEEING A LOW FUEL PRESSURE WARNING, THEN THE ENGINE QUIT OVER 3 MILES FROM THE RUNWAY.

FOUND A FIELD AND OVERTURNED DURING THE LANDING. HAD TO BE EXTRICATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT.

NO FUEL FOUND IN ANY PART OF THE FUEL SYSTEM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA210](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA210), May 24, 2025: Vans RV-12 (N813JC), Abingdon, VA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate preflight planning, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
