## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, A CESSNA 172F, DEPARTED FROM KJAX (JACKSONVILLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT) EN ROUTE TO KVRB (VERO BEACH REGIONAL) WITH A PRACTICE APPROACH AND TAXI BACK AT KFIN (FLAGLER EXECUTIVE AIRPORT) AT APPROXIMATELY 17:45. FUEL RECEIPTS AND FBO PERSONNEL INDICATE THAT THE AIRPLANE WAS TOPPED OFF WITH 23.4 GALLONS OF AVGAS. UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE AIRCRAFT SHOULD HAVE HAD ENOUGH FUEL TO REMAIN AIRBORNE FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS AND 30 MINUTES.

THE DISTANCE FROM KJAX TO KFIN IS APPROXIMATELY 52 NAUTICAL MILES, AND FROM KFIN TO KVRB IS APPROXIMATELY 86 NAUTICAL MILES, FOR A TOTAL OF 138 NAUTICAL MILES, WHICH SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ABOUT 2 HOURS AND 20 MINUTES. AT AN AVERAGE SPEED AND FUEL CONSUMPTION, THE FLIGHT SHOULD HAVE USED APPROXIMATELY 21 GALLONS, LEAVING A REMAINING FUEL AMOUNT OF 17 GALLONS UPON ARRIVAL AT THE DESTINATION.

BASED ON ATC AND PILOT STATEMENTS, "N5200F" WAS CLEARED FOR THE RNAV 30L APPROACH. APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE PRIOR TO THE FINAL APPROACH FIX (ZOROE) AT 1500 FEET, THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC) NOTICED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE PIC IMMEDIATELY DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND BRIEFED THE PASSENGERS ON THE SITUATION. THE PIC STATED THAT HE COMPLETED THE EMERGENCY CHECKLIST, MAINTAINED BEST GLIDE SPEED, AND SELECTED AN APPROPRIATE AREA FOR DITCHING. THE EVACUATION WAS SWIFT AND ORDERLY, WITH NO SERIOUS INJURIES REPORTED. HOWEVER, THE PIC SUSTAINED A MINOR INJURY THAT REQUIRED STITCHES.

AS PER NTSB THIS IS CONSIDER A DITCHING EVENT AS A CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT CAN'T BE DETERMINED. THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST AND REMAINS 2 MILES FROM THE SHORE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
