## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DEPARTED RUNWAY 27 AT 11:30, ROTATED AROUND 56KTS APPROXIMATELY 800' DOWN THE RUNWAY. AFTER CLIMBING TO 10-15'AGL, A CROSSWIND GUST PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT OF CENTERLINE AND THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED SOME. THE PILOT APPLIED FULL LEFT AILERON BUT WAS UNABLE TO RE-ESTABLISH A STABILIZED CLIMB. HE THEN REDUCED POWER AND ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN THE GRASS. THE AIRCRAFTS RIGHT WING CONTACTED THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 60' NORTH OF THE RUNWAY CENTERLINE, THEN THE PROP STRUCK, THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED FROM HARD IMPACT, LASTLY, THE LEFT WING TIP HIT THE GROUND MOMENTARILY. THE AIRCRAFT THEN SKIDDED TO A STOP APPROXIMATELY 160 FEET NORTH OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DID NOT FULLY PREPARE FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF THE STRONG CROSSWIND GUST AND WAS NOT APPLYING ENOUGH LEFT AILERON INTO THE WIND. THE PILOT STATED "I LET THE CROSSWIND TAKE ME BY SURPRISE AND AS A RESULT GOT BEHIND THE AIRPLANE."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA245](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA245), Jun 27, 2025: Cessna 177 (N30743), Kelleys Island, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane while taking off in gusting crosswind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
