## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

IN THE CLIMB, JUST SHORTLY BEFORE LEVELING OFF AT FL350, THE FO NOTICED THE SMELL OF ELECTRICAL FUMES/SMOKE. FO WENT THROUGH THE QRH ITEMS AND DETERMINED THE RTU #2 FAILED AND WAS THE SOURCE. CAPTAIN DECIDED TO TURN BACK TO YVR.

THE SITUATION IN THE FLIGHT DECK WAS STABLE ENOUGH TO POSTPONE ACTIONING THE EMERGENCY POWER AND SMOKE REMOVAL PROCEDURE IN THE QRH. PLANE LADNED UNEVENTFULLY. CREW WENT THROUGH SHUT DOWN OF THE AIRCRAFT, AND ADVISED THE FA TO DEPLANE RAPIDLY. EVERYBODY GOT OFF SAFE AND QUICK, AND COMPLIED WITH ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND LEFT EVERYTHING BEHIND.

THE FIRE CREW WENT ON THE PLANE AND LATER CONFIRMED THAT THEY STILL SAW SMOKE ON THE PLANE. NO ONE WAS INJURED OR GOT SICK WHEN WE LEFT. CREW FURTHER DEBRIEFED AND DISCUSSED THE EVENT WITH THE ON CALL DUTY MANAGER.

•	#2 RTU REPLACED AS PER AMM 23-81-01-400-801

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
