## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED HE WAS MAKING AN APPROACH TO THE LANDING DOCK LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE LAKE. AS HE DESCENDED TOWARD THE WATER HE MISJUDGED THE AMOUNT OF DECREASE IN GROUND EFFECT WHEN HOVERING OVER WATER. HE BEGAN TO SINK, TRIED TO CORRECT BY ADDING POWER BUT THOUGHT HE OVERPOWERED THE GOVERNOR. THE SINK WAS NOT ARRESTED AND THE HELICOPTER SETTLED INTO THE ROUGHLY 4 FEET OF WATER, AT WHICH POINT, IT TIPPED TO ONE SIDE AND THE ROTOR STRUCK THE WATER CAUSING A SUDDEN STOP OF THE ENGINE DAMAGING THE ROTOR BLADE. OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS CAUSED BY THE RECOVERY EFFORT WHICH ENTAILED DRAGGING THE AIRCRAFT OUT OF THE LAKE WITH A ROPE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA267](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA267), Jul 9, 2025: Robinson Helicopter R44 II (N67RW), Inlet, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the helicopter during the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
