## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PIC STATED THEY DEPARTED KISM AT 1523, AFTER A RUNUP WITH NORMAL INDICATIONS. CLIMBED OUT AT 74 KIAS, HANDED TO ORL DEPARTURE TO CLIMB TO 4000'. AT APPROXIMATELY 1000' THE STUDENT COMPLETED THE CLIMB CHECKLIST AND PITCHED FOR 80-85 KIAS. PIC STATED THEY CHECKED ENGINE INSTRUMENTS AT 1500' AND VERIFIED IN NORMAL RANGE. PASSING THROUGH 1900' PIC AND STUDENT NOTICED ENGINE VIBRATIONS, WITHIN TWO SECONDS THEY HEARD A LOUD NOSE AND THE WINDSCREEN BECAME COVERED IN OIL. PIC TOOK CONTROLS AND PITCHED FOR BEST GLIDE, INITIATING A LEFT TURN TOWARDS ISM. BEGAN THE ENGINE FAILURE CHECKLIST AND THE COCKPIT FILLED WITH GREY SMOKE, STRONG BURNING OIL SMELL, AND NOTICEABLE HEAT ON THEIR LEGS. PIC OPENED WINDOWS FOR VENTILATION, THEN PULLED THE FUEL SHUTOFF VALVE OFF AND MIXTURE TO IDLE CUTOFF. PIC STATED FORWARD VISIBILITY WAS SEVERELY LIMITED. PIC IDENTIFIED WIDE ROAD WITH SPACING IN TRAFFIC FOR A FORCED LANDING. TO INCREASE AIRSPEED AND ATTEMPT TO EXTINGUISH ANY FIRE THE PIC PITCHED THE NOSE DOWN DURING THE TURN. STUDENT MADE MAYDAY CALL TO ORLANDO APPROACH. PIC AND STUDENT WORKED TOGETHER LOOKING OUT SIDE WINDOWS TO JUDGE LANDING AREA, ADDING FLAPS AS THEY APPROACHED THE GROUND AND SLOWED DOWN. ONCE IN GROUND EFFECT THEY FELT A SMALL BUMP AND THE AIRCRAFT ROSE BACK INTO THE AIR THEN COMPLETED THE LANDING. AFTER LANDING PIC APPLIED MAXIMUM BRAKING AND STOPPED AIRCRAFT ON THE ROAD. AIRCRAFT WING APPEARED TO HAVE STRUCK A SIGN POST ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ON ROLL OUT.

DURING THE FLARE, THE SMALL BUMP FELT BY THE CREW WAS THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR STRIKING THE LEFT DRIVERS SIDE DOOR/WINDOW OF A CAR ON THE ROAD.
