## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS SEARCHING FOR A GRAVEL BAR TO LAND ON IN A REMOTE CREEK. UPON FINDING A SUITABLE LOCATION HE PERFORMED SEVERAL LOW-LEVEL PASSES TO ASSESS THE TERRAIN. WHEN LANDING, THE TAILWHEEL STRUCK AN UNKNOWN OBJECT FORCING THE MAIN LANDING GEAR TO IMPACT THE GROUND. THE IMPACT RESULTED IN A COLLAPSE OF THE MAIN LANDING GEAR AND THE PROPELLER STRIKING THE GROUND.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC25LA083](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC25LA083), Aug 2, 2025: Aviat A-1B (N900HY), Chisana, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from terrain while maneuvering at low altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
