## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 6TH, 2025 AT APPROXIMATELY 05:19 PM CDT, A STUDENT PILOT WAS OPERATING A SCHWEIZER SGS 2-33 GLIDER IN THE VICINITY OF BULT FIELD, C56 ON A SOLO FLIGHT. THE PILOT, AFTER BEING RELEASED FROM THE TOW PILOT AND SPENDING SOME TIME IN THE AIR, RETURNED TO BULT FIELD AND ENTERED THE PATTERN. THE PILOT NOTICED HER ALTITUDE WAS LOW AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN ONTO THE BASE LEG EARLIER THAN NORMAL TO ACCOUNT FOR THE ALTITUDE ISSUE. WITNESSES STATED THAT THE PILOT, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN ONTO FINAL, CONTACTED A TELEPHONE POLE AND CAME TO REST IN A DITCH, LANDING SHORT OF RUNWAY NINE. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE NOSE CONE AND LEFT WING. THE PILOT WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN25LA311](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN25LA311), Aug 6, 2025: Schweizer SGS 2-33A (N65818), Monee, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain airspeed and altitude resulting in a collision with the ground during the base to final turn.

## Other reports on N65818 (1)

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
