## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 12, 2025, A PITTS S-1T AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FROM PHOENIX GOODYEAR AIRPORT (GYR) FOR A PERSONAL FLIGHT UNDER 14 CFR PART 91, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN IT IMPACTED THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 11.25 MILES SOUTH OF GYR AIRPORT. THE PILOT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT ON BOARD AND WAS FATALLY INJURED.

THERE WAS NO KNOWN RADIO CONTACT WITH AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL, AND NO ADS-B DATA WAS AVAILABLE.

THE PILOT TAXIED WITHOUT A CLEARANCE THEN DEPARTED VIA FROM TAXIWAY A8.

FAA RADAR DATA INDICATED A PRIMARY TARGET ORIGINATING NEAR THE AIRCRAFT'S DEPARTURE POINT AT 10:14 AM AND TERMINATING NEAR THE CRASH SITE AT 10:19 AM ARIZONA TIME.

THE CONDITIONS OF VMC (VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS) AND POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION DID NOT REVEAL EVIDENCE OF MECHANICAL FAILURE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR25FA253](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR25FA253), Aug 12, 2025: Pitts S-1T (N51HC), Goodyear, AZ, substantial damage, 1 fatal, investigation ongoing

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
