ON AUGUST 23, 2025, A CESSNA 170 WAS MAKING A LANDING ON RUNWAY 32 AT FITCHBURG MUNICIPAL AIRPORT IN MASSACHUSETTS. THE AIRCRAFT ATEMPTED A LANDING AT THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN, THEN SWERVED LEFT OFF THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPED OVER. (GROUND LOOPED) THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT HAD NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA25LA312](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA25LA312), Aug 23, 2025: Cessna 170 (N2589V), Fitchburg, MA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll with a quartering tailwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
