## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 24TH AT APPROXIMATELY 7:30AM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ARRIVED AT CHICKEN, ALASKA AIRPORT. UPON ARRIVAL, PILOT JOINED THE DOWNWIND FOR RWY 31 AND ENTERED SHORT FINAL. HE CONTINUED LOW APPROACH TO RUNWAY END TO INSPECT GRAVEL SURFACE FOR SAFE LANDING. AT 900 FT MSL AND PRIOR TO END OF RUNWAY, PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER, AND INITIATED CLIMB. PILOT REPORTED THAT ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, FOLLOWED BY A RATTLE OR PINGING SOUND. THE ENGINE BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY WITH A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND THEN SHUTDOWN COMPLETLEY. WITH INSUFFICIENT POWER AND ALTITUDE TO TURN BACK AND LAND, PILOT PREPARED TO EXECUTE A HARD LANDING. DURING DESCENT AND HARD LANDING BEYOND THE END OF THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED SEVERAL SMALL TREES WITH RIGHT WING AND FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON ITS NOSE WITH FUSALAGE HELD UP BY A TREE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC25LA094](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC25LA094), Aug 24, 2025: Piper PA-28-180 (N7771N), Chicken, AK, substantial damage, investigation ongoing

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
