## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A TRAINING FLIGHT, THE STUDENT PILOT EXPERIENCED A POWER LOSS DUE TO A CYLINDER FAILURE. IN RESPONSE TO SMOKE FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. BELIEVING THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE, THE CFI TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND TURNED TO THE CLOSEST AIRPORT.

WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON A ONE MILE FINAL, THE ENGINE WAS SHUT DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD AND PORPOISED. ON THE NEXT CYCLE, THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON NOSE GEAR, WHICH SHEARED OFF.

THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP ON THE RUNWAY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
