## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PIC WAS PERFORMING HIS THIRD PHASE ONE FLIGHT TEST OF HIS AMATEUR-BUILT JUST AIRCRAFT HIGHLANDER. WINDS WERE OUT OF THE WEST AT 8 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 15 KNOTS. ON ROLLOUT AFTER LANDING ON RUNWAY 13, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A CROSSWIND THAT PUSHED THE AIRCRAFT LEFT OFF THE RUNWAY. THIRTY FEET OFF THE RUNWAY THE NOSE LANDING GEAR STRUCK THE BASIN OF A DRAINAGE DITCH THAT BROUGHT THE NOSE-DOWN AIRCRAFT TO A SUDDEN HALT, CAUSING IT TO FLIP FORWARD OVER THE NOSE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE INCLUDING DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, NOSE LANDING GEAR, RIGHT WING STRUT, AND VERTICAL STABILIZER. THE PILOT SUFFERED A LACERATION ABOVE THE LEFT EYE REQUIRING ELEVEN STITCHES. THE PILOT NOTED NO MECHANICAL DISCREPANCIES PRIOR TO OR DURING THE FLIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN25LA375](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN25LA375), Sep 11, 2025: Just Highlander (N442DU), Forest Lake, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during a gusty crosswind landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
