## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS ON FINAL TO LAND AT A REMOTE AIRSTRIP OUTSIDE OF YAKUTAT, ALASKA. AT ABOUT 250 FT. THE ENGINE QUIT AND HIT A SAND DUNE THAT RIPPED THE NOSE GEAR OFF OF THE AIRCRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT ENDED UP ON IT'S BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC25LA112](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC25LA112), Sep 22, 2025: Cessna 172 (N4282F), Yakataga, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to carburetor icing and the pilot’s failure to effectively use carburetor heat in meteorological conditions conducive to the formation of carburetor icing.

## Other reports on N4282F (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19910729058649I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910729058649I), Jul 29, 1991: Cessna 172 (N4282F), Eugene, OR, Minor damage. Engine quit in flight. Forced landing in field. Found NR1 cylinder was broken off.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
