## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OCTOBER 5, 2025, AT 1045 CDT, THE PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) OF ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ A CESSNA C172K, LANDED AT TAUTZ AIRPORT (LL07). THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED IN VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) AND USING VISUAL FLIGHT RULES (VFR). THE NEAREST AUTOMATIC TERMINAL INFORMATION SERVICE (ATIS) REPORTED MODERATE WIND CONDITIONS AND CLEAR SKIES, KCWI 051456Z AUTO 18012KT 10SM CLR 23/14 A3006 RMK AO2 SLP179 T02280144 50000.

THE PIC CONDUCTED A LEISURE FLIGHT WITH ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD. THE PIC ATTEMPTED TO LAND AT LL07, A GRASS RUNWAY, ON RUNWAY 09. THE PIC STATED THAT THE APPROACH WAS STABILIZED WITH FULL FLAPS EXTENDED. JUST ABOVE THE RUNWAY, DURING HIS ROUND OUT, A GUST OF WIND BLEW THE AIRCRAFT OFF THE CENTERLINE. THE PIC INITIATED A GO AROUND, BUT STATED THAT DUE TO THE UPSLOPE IN THE RUNWAY, HE WAS UNABLE TO BUILD SPEED APPROPRIATE TO CLIMB. FLAPS REMAINED IN THE EXTENDED POSITION AND WERE NOT RETRACTED. THE AIRCRAFT LOST LIFT RAPIDLY AND THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED INTO AN UNHARVESTED CORN FIELD. IT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 400 YARDS NORTHEAST OF THE RUNWAY, FACING SOUTHWEST.

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE SCENE, THE AIRCRAFT WAS FOUND MOSTLY CONSUMED BY POST IMPACT FIRE. THERE WAS FIRE DAMAGE TO SOME OF THE IMMEDIATE AREAS AROUND THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE ABLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE FIRE CONSUMED THE AIRCRAFT. THE PIC WAS UNINJURED, THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN26LA007](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN26LA007), Oct 5, 2025: Cessna R172 (N7354V), Mount Carroll, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain aircraft control during a go around in gusty wind conditions.

## Other reports on N7354V (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19870105000159I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19870105000159I), Jan 5, 1987: Cessna R172K (N7354V), Reading, MI, Minor damage. Forced landing in a field after severe engine vibration en route. Found signs of oil starvation. Oil cap loose.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
