## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE MISHAP AIRCRAFT WAS ON THE SECOND LEG OF A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT WITH A SINGLE OCCUPANT. AFER TAKING ON FUEL AT BAF, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FOR 47N. WHILE CLIMBING OUT THROUGH 2500 MSL, THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF CYLINDER NUMBER 4. THE UPPER SECTION OF THE CYLINDER BARREL SEPERATED FROM THE LOWER SECTION APPROXIMATELY FOUR INCHES ABOVE THE CYLINDER FLANGE. THIS ALSO CAUSED CATASTROPHIC DESTRUCTION OF THE NUMBER FOUR PISTON AND BENDING OF THE NUMBER FOUR PUSHROD. THE SEVERE VIBRATION CAUSED THE PILOT TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE WITHIN GLIDING DISTANCE OF BDL. THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND COMPLETED A SUCCESSFUL ENGINE OUT LANDING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
