## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS CONDUCTING A RETURN FLIGHT FROM A SOLO CROSS-COUNTRY TRAINING FLIGHT. DURING TOUCHDOWN ROLLOUT, THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, DAMAGING TWO RUNWAY MARKING LIGHTS, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE LEFT LANDING GEAR FAIRING OF THE AIRCRAFT. PILOT STATED THERE WAS ICE ON THE RUNWAY SURFACE AND HE DID NOT APPLY SUFFICIENT RIGHT RUDDER TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LEFT-HAND DRIFT THAT OCCURRED DURING ROLLOUT, LEADING TO LOSS OF CONTROL AND RUNWAY EXCURSION. THE PILOT ALSO STATED HIS PREVIOUS FLIGHT LEG OF THE DAY WAS UNEVENTFUL AND CONTRIBUTED TO A RELAXED MENTAL STATE, LEADING TO COMPLACENCY IN MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING THAT PHASE OF THE FLIGHT. POST-INCIDENT CORRECTIVE ACTIONS WERE TAKEN BY THE FLIGHT SCHOOL IN THE FORM OF COUNSELING COVERING PILOT DIRECTIONAL CONTROL PROFICIENCY THROUGH ASSERTIVE RUDDER CONTROL, MANAGING COMPLACENCY FOR POSITIVE AIRCRAFT CONTROL IN ALL PHASES OF FLIGHT AND GROUND OPERATIONS, WINTER OPERATIONS SKILLS TO INCLUDE AIRCRAFT HANDLING ON SURFACES WITH REDUCED BRAKING ACTION, AND A POST-INCIDENT SOLO EVALUATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
