## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATES THAT HE WAS DOING AN EMERGENCY DESCENT OR STEEP SPIRAL WHEN HE HAD TO PUT THE POWER BACK IN, WITH NO POWER RESPONSE, ENGINE AT 800 RPM. FULL POWER WAS AGAIN ATTEMPTED, CARBURETOR HEAT WAS ALREADY PULLED OUT. MOVED THE MAG WITH NO RESPONSE. PILOT THEN PREPARED FOR A POWER OFF LANDING ON BABCOCK ROAD. A STOPPED VEHICLE ON THE ROAD FORCED A SLIGHT TURN TO THE RIGHT WHERE THE RIGHT WING STRUCK A ROAD SIGN, CAUSING ROTATION OF THE AIRCRAFT INTO A DITCH IN A NOSE DOWN POSITION. FUEL SPILLAGE IN THE SHALLOW DITCH WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE. AN INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE INCLUDING COMPRESSION CHECK, ENGINE CONTROL MOVEMENTS, INSPECTIONS FOR SECURITY OF HARDWARE, LINES AND FITTINGS, FUEL FILTER SUMP FOR CONTAMINATION, OIL LEVEL CHECK, REVEALED NO ABNORMALITIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
