## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JANUARY 5, 2026, AT APPROXIMATELY 1430 LOCAL TIME, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT THAT ATTEMPTED TO PERFORM A SOFT FIELD TAKE OFF ON RUNWAY 27 AT CAMPBELL AIRPORT (C81). AS THE AIRPLANE ROTATED, IT BEGAN VEERING TO THE LEFT. THE INSTRUCTOR EVENTUALLY TOOK THE CONTROLS FROM THE STUDENT, BUT THE PLANE CONTINUED LEFT AND EVENTUALLY STRUCK A LINE OF TREES PARALLEL WITH THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT

SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOTED ON THE EMPENNAGE FROM THE SECOND FRAME AND SKIN JOINT AFT OF THE REAR FUSELAGE WINDOW SEPARATING FOR THE AIRCRAFT. ADDITIONAL DAMAGE WAS NOTED ON THE RIGHT-WING LEADING EDGE, RIGHT AILERON, LEFT FLAP INBOARD TRAILING EDGE, ENGINE COWLING, AND PROPELLER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN26LA083](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN26LA083), Jan 5, 2026: Cessna 150 (N101FA), Round Lake Park, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during a soft-field takeoff and the flight instructor’s delayed remedial action.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
