## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS CONDUCTING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION IN A CESSNA CE150 TRI-GEAR AIRCRAFT. THEY WERE PRACTICING NIGHT LANDINGS WHEN THE STUDENT PILOT HANDED OVER THE CONTROLS TO THE INSTRUCTOR, WHO HAD BEEN CLEARED TO LAND ON THE LAKE HOOD GRAVEL STRIP. DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF MULTIPLE RUNWAYS IN THE AREA, THE PILOT'S LACK OF EXPERIENCE AT LAKE HOOD, AND DARKNESS, THE PILOT BECAME DISORIENTED AND MISTAKENLY LANDED ON THE FROZEN, SNOW-COVERED WATERWAY USED FOR SKI-PLANE OPERATIONS THIS TIME OF YEAR. AFTER LANDING THE AIRCRAFT'S LANDING GEAR TO SANK INTO THE DEEP SNOW CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC26LA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC26LA011), Jan 25, 2026: Cessna 150K (N6333G), Anchorage, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s unintentional selection of the wrong, snow-covered landing surface, which resulted in a nose-over.
