## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WITNESSES SAW THE PILOT ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF FROM HIS DRIVEWAY FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT. THE HELICOPTER LIFTED OFF INTO A HOVER, WHICH WITNESSES DESCRIBED AS "UNSTABLE," PROMPTING THE PILOT TO LAND. THEY THEN HEARD AN INCREASE IN MAIN ROTOR RPM, FOLLOWED BY A NEAR-VERTICAL CLIMB. AT ABOUT 80 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL, THE HELICOPTER SUDDENLY DESCENDED, STRIKING A TREE WITH ITS TAIL ROTOR BEFORE HITTING THE GROUND WITH ITS MAIN ROTOR BLADES. THE HELICOPTER CAME TO REST ON ITS LEFT SIDE, APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET FROM ITS DEPARTURE POINT. THE AIRCART SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE MAIN ROTOR SYSTEM, TAIL ROTOR SYSTEM, LANDING GEAR, AND THE FUSELAGE.

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT POWER TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE AND LOST CONTROL OF THE HELICOPTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
