## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE UNDER INSTRUCTION, CONDUCTING INSTRUMENT PROFICIENCY CHECKS, THE CREW EXECUTED A MISSED APPROACH AND TURNED TO THE NORTH AND CLIMBED TO 2000 FT MSL TO SET UP FOR A SECOND APPROACH. THE CREW NOTICED A TURKEY BUZZARD DROP INTO VIEW FROM HIGH LEFT AND THERE WAS NO TIME TO CONDUCT ANY EVASIVE ACTIONS. THE BIRD STRUCK THE RIGHT, UPPER SIDE OF THE WINDSCREEN, BROKE A HOLE IN THE WINDSCREEN, AND IMPACTED THE RIGHT-SIDE ELEVATOR. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE CREW AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNDER CONTROL THROUGHOUT THE EVENT. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO THE FIELD AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. POST FLIGHT INSPECTION OF THE DAMAGE WAS ASSESSED BY THE MAUFACTURER AND THE AREA WHERE THE DAMAGE LOCATED IS CONSIDERED NON-REPAIRABLE AND THE AIRCRAFT IS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA26LA111](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA26LA111), Feb 6, 2026: Cirrus Design SR22T (N322MC), Thomson, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: An in-flight collision with a bird while maneuvering.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
