A CROSSWIND WAS ENCOUNTERED DURING THE APPROACH, LEADING TO A BOUNCED LANDING. THE PILOT APPLIED BRAKES FOLLOWING THE BOUNCE, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY DUE TO A COMBINATION OF SPEED, CROSSWIND, BRAKE APPLICATION, AND STRUCK THE AIRCRAFT LEFT WING LEADING EDGE STRUCK A SIGN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN26LA113](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN26LA113), Feb 11, 2026: Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecna P-MENTOR (N316VV), Des Moines, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The solo student pilot’s improper landing flare and subsequent improper recovery from a bounced landing, which resulted in a loss of directional control and a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
