## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS PERFORMING AN ADVANCED MANEUVER WHEN THE ENGINE POWER WAS INADVERTENTLY REDUCED. THE PILOT DID NOT RECOGNIZE THE REDUCTION IN POWER AND DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE ISSUE. THIS ERROR RESULTED IN AN EMERGENCY LANDING THAT CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. NEITHER THE PILOT NOR THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES. A REVIEW OF THE AIRCRAFT RECORDS CONFIRMED PROPER AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATION AND CURRENT INSPECTION STATUS. A REVIEW OF THE PILOT RECORDS CONFIRMED THE CORRECT CERTIFICATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR26LA104](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR26LA104), Feb 16, 2026: Aerosport Ikarus C42E (N420MS), Wendover, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s mismanagement of engine power during a maximum performance, 180° climbing left turn at a low altitude that resulted in impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
