## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

A FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WAS CONDUCTING A PIC PROFICIENCY CHECK ON A PILOT IN A PA-28R-200 AT KSGJ. THE FIRST LANDING (TOUCH AND GO) WAS UNEVENTFUL. DURING THE SECOND TRAFFIC PATTERN (FULL STOP), AN AIRCRAFT WAS TAXIING TO HOLD SHORT OF THE RUNWAY WHICH DISTRACTED THE PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR AS THEY DISCUSSED WHICH TAXIWAY THEY WOULD NEED TO DEPART THE RUNWAY ON. THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 13 WITH THE GEAR RETRACTED AS THE PILOTS FAILED TO ACTUATE THE GEAR HANDLE PRIOR TO LANDING. THE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN NO INJURIES BUT SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA26LA139](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA26LA139), Mar 5, 2026: Piper PA-28R-200 (N44443), St. Augustine, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to extend the landing gear before landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
