## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT, THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC) EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN, HIGH-ENERGY ENGINE FAILURE MARKED BY A "LOUD POP" AND SEVERE AIRFRAME VIBRATION. THE PIC IMMEDIATELY DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND NAVIGATED TOWARD K81. DURING THE DESCENT, THE PILOT NOTED COCKPIT SMOKE AND A COMPLETE LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. RECOGNIZING K81 WAS BEYOND GLIDE RANGE, THE PILOT EXERCISED SOUND AERONAUTICAL DECISION-MAKING BY SELECTING A NEARBY ROADWAY FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING, WITHOUT INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

POST-INCIDENT INSPECTION CONFIRMED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE: A CONNECTING ROD LIBERATED AND BREACHED THE ENGINE CRANKCASE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
