## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

FACTS: ON MARCH 30, 2026, THE PILOT OF CESSNA C-195, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, DEPARTED GILLESPIE FIELD (KSEE) FOR BIG BEAR CITY AIRPORT (L35). BASED ON VERBAL ACCOUNT OF THE PILOT, AS WELL AS ADS-B POSITION DATA FROM ATO, THE PILOT UNSUCCESSFULLY ATTEMPTED A WHEEL LANDING WITH A VARIABLE DIRECTION TAILWIND IN GUSTY CONDITIONS, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF CONTROL, GROUND LOOP, AND SUBSEQUENT RUNWAY EXCURSION. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED OFF OF THE RUNWAY STRIKING TWO AIRPORT SIGNS. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE MAIN LANDING GEAR, AND WING STRUCTURE INCLUDING PERMANENT DEFORMATION OF THE AILERON AND FLAP; THE PILOT REPORTED NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR26LA135](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR26LA135), Mar 20, 2026: Cessna 195 (N9368A), Big Bear, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll with a quartering tailwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
