## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT FLEW TO AN AIRPORT FOR TAILWHEEL LANDING TRAINING. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS THERE INCLUDED RAIN AND WINDS REPORTED AT 050 AT 8 KNOTS, GUSTING TO 16 KNOTS. WHEN LANDING ON RWY 36 AND ON ROLLOUT, THE STUDENT BEGAN TO DRIFT THE AIRCRAFT RIGHT, INTO THE WIND, AND TOWARD A RUNWAY EDGE LIGHT. THE INSTRUCTOR ASSUMED CONTROL, BUT THE AIRCRAFT MAINTAINED ITS COURSE INTO THE GRASS. AS BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED DOWN A SLIGHT EMBANKMENT AND OVERTURNED. NEITHER PILOT WAS INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE VERTICAL STABILIZER, PROPELLER, AND BOTH WINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN26LA158](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN26LA158), Apr 3, 2026: Cessna A185 (N430RP), Luverne, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during a gusting crosswind landing, and the flight instructor’s delayed remedial action.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
