## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESCENDING FROM 8,000 TO 3,000 FEET ON APPROACH TO PUNTA CANA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (MDPC) WHEN IT ENCOUNTERED UNEXPECTED, BRIEF MODERATE TURBULENCE. AN INFLIGHT CREWMEMBER, WHO WAS OUT OF THE JUMPSEAT PREPARING FOR FINAL CABIN COMPLIANCE CHECKS, FELL BACKWARDS DUE TO THE TURBULENCE AND STRUCK THEIR TAILBONE ON A METAL PART OF THE CABIN JUMPSEAT. THE INJURED CREWMEMBER LATER REPORTED INTENSE PAIN IN THE INJURED AREA. MEDLINK WAS CONTACTED, AND FOLLOWING THEIR RECOMMENDATION, THE CREWMEMBER WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL FOR AN X-RAY AND EVALUATION. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE INJURY RESULTED IN A TAILBONE FRACTURE. NO OTHER PASSENGERS OR CREWMEMBERS WERE INJURED.

A REVIEW OF THE DISPATCH RELEASE AND HISTORICAL WEATHER DATA SHOWED NO SIGMETS, PIREPS, OR RADAR RETURNS THAT WOULD HAVE HELPED AVOID THE TURBULENCE ENCOUNTER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
