## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MAY 15, 2026, AT APPROXIMATELY 4:00 PM LOCAL TIME, A COMMERCIAL PILOT OPERATING A MOONEY M20J DEPARTED MORRIS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT C09, FOR A LOCAL RECREATIONAL FLIGHT. THERE WERE NO OTHER PERSONS ON BOARD. WHEN THE PILOT WAS RETURNING TO THE AIRPORT, HE EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING IN A PRAIRIE APPROXIMATELY 0.25 MILES NORTH OF C09 AIRPORT. IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE PILOT HAD NOT FUELED THE PLANE PROPERLY AND DID NOT SWITCH FUEL TANKS. THE AIRCRAT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE PROP AND WINGS. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
