## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER TAKE OFF FROM OXB INITIATED CLIMB, AROUND 1,000FT ENGINE STATED TO RUN ROUGH. THE PIC INITIATED A 180 DEGREE TURN BACK TO OXB. DURING THE RETURN, THE ENGINE PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED. A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE ENGIEN GOT WORSE, THE PIC NOTICED THE FRONT TOP COWLING STARTING TO LIFT UP AND SEPARATE, FOLLOWED BY A SPLASH OF OIL ON WINDSHIELD WITH LOST OF ENGINE POWER. THE PIC THEN INITIATED A TURN TO THE BEACH. THE PIC STEERED TO RIGHT AFTER TOUCHING DOWN ON SAND TO AVOID PEOPLE ON THE BEACH, THEN TURNED SLIGHTLY LEFT TO GO OVER THE SANDHILL AWAY FROM WATER. THE AIRCRAFT TILTED ON ITS NOSE COMING TO A FULL STOP.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
