## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT INTENDED TO LAND AT A REMOTE, UNIMPROVED AIRSTRIP. PRIOR TO LANDING, THE PILOT CONDUCTED A LOW-ALTITUDE PASS OVER THE AIRSTRIP TO EVALUATE THE RUNWAY SURFACE CONDITION AND IDENTIFY POTENTIAL HAZARDS. DURING THE OVERFLIGHT, THE PILOT OBSERVED WIND CONDITIONS AND ESTIMATED THE WIND TO BE APPROXIMATELY 5 KNOTS FROM THE SOUTH, RESULTING IN A CROSSWIND COMPONENT.

THE PILOT THEN INITIATED THE LANDING. AS THE MAIN LANDING GEAR TOUCHED DOWN, A STRONG GUST OF WIND FROM THE RIGHT LIFTED THE RIGHT WING AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO DEPART THE AIRSTRIP. THE AIRCRAFT TRAVELED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND COLLIDED WITH TREES.

THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS AND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPRIGHT ON THE LANDING GEAR AND DID NOT OVERTURN. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
