## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 16, 2026, AT 1438 ZULU TIME, A SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY (SIU) STUDENT PILOT AND FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING ON RUNWAY 18L AT SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AIRPORT (KMDH). THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED DURING LANDING AND HIT THE GROUND HARD ENOUGH TO COLLAPSE THE NOSE WHEEL, CAUSING A PROPELLER STRIKE AND STRUCTURAL FIREWALL DAMAGE, WHICH RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN26LA229](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN26LA229), Jun 16, 2026: Cessna 152 (N191FS), Carbondale, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s delayed remedial action during the student pilot’s miscalculated landing flare which resulted in a hard landing and the nose landing gear collapsing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
