## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER DEPARTURE FOR A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT, THE PIC NOTICED THE FUEL CAP WAS NOT FULLY SECURED AND FUEL WAS SIPHONING OUT OF THE WING. THE PIC ELECTED TO RETURN TO THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT. VARIABLE WINDS CAUSED THE PIC TO ELECT TO GO AROUND ON THE FIRST LANDING ATTEMPT IN AN EFFORT TO LAND WITH MORE OF A HEADWIND. ON THE SECOND LANDING ATTEMPT, THE GEAR WAS NOT LOWERED AND THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ON THE BELLY, RESULTING IN MILD DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE AND DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER AND ENGINE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
