## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT LOST ENGINE POWER SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE FROM THE FLOAT POND. THE PILOT SUBSEQUENTLY LANDED IN THE RIVER, WHERE THE AIRCRAFT FLOATED INTO A LOG JAM. THE PILOT WAS THE SOLE PERSON ON BOARD. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, AND THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE.

DURING THE POST-INCIDENT ENGINE INSPECTION, THE NO. 1 CYLINDER COMPRESSION WAS MEASURED AT 20/80, WHILE THE REMAINING CYLINDERS WERE BELOW 10 PSI. THE OIL FILTER AND OIL SUMP WERE ALSO FOUND TO CONTAIN METAL DEBRIS.

THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS DETERMINED TO BE A SUPERCHARGER FAILURE. MATERIAL FROM THE FAILED SUPERCHARGER WAS INGESTED AND DISTRIBUTED INTO ALL CYLINDERS, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE PILOT STATEMENT, MAINTENANCE FINDINGS, AND PHOTOGRAPHS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE OFFICE ACCIDENT FILE.

INCIDENT CLOSED SATISFACTORILY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
